If you’re considering managing a small residential renovation project on your own, or addressing a larger renovation project with an architect, but you’re not sure where to begin, this workshop may be right for you.
Over the course of the first two sessions, architect and author Katie Hutchison will provide an example of design thinking applied to a residential renovation, and share case studies that illustrate ten successful design strategies to consider implementing in your own project. By the close of the second session, Katie will provide information about how to document existing conditions for your own project. The final session will be an informal studio with students loosely sketching to scale (on trace paper over their graph-paper existing condition drawings) initial potential solutions to their own renovation project. (Or, if students don’t have their own project to investigate, Katie can provide a sample one.) Katie will circulate during the studio to discuss each student’s project one on one. Students will leave the class with a better idea of where to begin their renovation projects and what direction to head next.
