Hope you can join me on Thursday, September 28 at the Coastal Living Design Center (147 Water St.) in Warren for a book talk and signing. I'll be discussing a new batch of featured small houses from the book. Find the event here and on the Art Night Bristol Warren handbill of events.

I had an enjoyable conversation with Mark R. LePage over at the EntreArchitect podcast. Here's the podcast episode link. Mark has a specific interest in the business of small-firm architecture, and has conducted an impressive series of podcasts on a wide range of topics of interest to those pursuing a career in architecture and those shaping their small-firm architectural practices.
Mark indulged my interest in spreading the word about my recent call for submissions for the new book that I'm working on with The Taunton Press. The book's working title is The Cottage, Now. Here's a link to the House Enthusiast blog post with the details of the call for submissions.
Hope you'll give the podcast a listen, and that you'll send me your cottage projects to consider for the book.

Hope you can join me for the upcoming workshop I'm leading at the BAM.
Residential Renovation Design Thinking Introduction
Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26, 2017:
6:30-7:30 pm, and
Tuesday, May 2, 2017:
6:30-8:00 pm
$160 for non-BAM members and $150 for BAM members; plus materials fee
If you’re considering managing a small residential renovation project on your own, or addressing a larger renovation project with an architect, but you’re not sure where to begin, this workshop may be right for you.
Over the course of the first two sessions, architect and author Katie Hutchison will provide an example of design thinking applied to a residential renovation, and share case studies that illustrate ten successful design strategies to consider implementing in your own project. By the close of the second session, Katie will provide information about how to document existing conditions for your own project. The final session will be an informal studio with students loosely sketching to scale (on trace paper over their graph-paper existing condition drawings) initial potential solutions to their own renovation project. (Or, if students don’t have their own project to investigate, Katie can provide a sample one.) Katie will circulate during the studio to discuss each student’s project one on one. Students will leave the class with a better idea of where to begin their renovation projects and what direction to head next.

I sat down at Ballard Designs in their new Natick Mall location to chat with the three "How to Decorate" podcast hosts, Caroline McDonald, Karen Mooney, and Taryn Schwartz about small-house living and The New Small House from The Taunton Press. Check out the podcast here.
